11-11-2011  «I SEE THE WORLD»

On November, 11th, 2011 in a conference hall of the Almaty City Perinatal Centre (CPC) we have handed over to this obstetric aid institution a digital wide-field retinal chamber. It has been done in the frame of the project «I see the world».

According to doctor-ophthalmologist of the City Perinatal Centre the rate of retinopathy of prematurely born children in 2008 was 26 %, and in 2009 it was already 27,3 %. A retinopathy of prematurely born – a principal cause of children's blindness and impaired vision. The increase of this disease and complications of it occurs because of its late diagnostics. In Russia there are eight big neonatal centres which have similar devices. The Russian doctors work on this pathology for 15 years. And according to last information in such cities as Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and even Kaluga, the heavy forms of retinopathy led to blindness, aren't observed any more for last 2 years. It happened because diagnostics of the disease of prematurely born is well adjusted. In our country till now a retinal chamber was only in Astana. Now early diagnostics of a retinopathy will be possible and for inhabitants of Almaty region. The project «I see the world» have been conceived in 2010 and management of CPC has been hotly interested in getting of retinal chambers. There is a special room for this purpose where the chamber will be installed and the room could be accessed from inside and outside. It will allow carrying investigation not only to patients of CPC, but also children from other medical institutions. In the world market the similar retinal chamber is offered at the price of 29,000,000 tenge, but the factory-manufacturer Clarity Medical Systems from USA has taken into consideration that our welfare fund is interested to purchase this device, and after negotiations with the company management a discount was made for us and we have got a retinoscope for 12,140,000 tenge. We are pleasantly surprised that manufacturers of the medical equipment from the developed countries willingly participate in charity, and especially we are pleased that our Kazakhstan suppliers of the goods and services even more often follow the lead the of their western colleagues.

In our presence doctors-oculists have carried investigation of a girl recently born in CPC who was prematurely born. Namely such children are included into group of risk of development of retinopathy. Fortunately for mother of the girl, and also for doctors and employees of our fund now the condition of retina of both eyes of the child doesn't inspire fears.

It is remarkable that solemn ceremony of handover of the certificate for this expensive ophthalmologic diagnostic complex has taken place on November, 11th, 2011 at 11 o'clock 11 minutes. And though owing to our medical education and education we aren't apologists of pseudo-scientific disciplines such as a numerology, but such coincidence should inspire us with confidence of success, after all 11.11.11 (date) and 11:11 (time) can repeat only in 100 years on November, 11th, 2111.
