Four teams of the special correctional boarding schools No. 4, No. 9, No. 10 and the orphanage No. 1 of Almaty region took part in the Baursak-Battle festival, organized by AYALA Charity Foundation. The children competed in rap and modern dances, played streetball. The main competition of the festival was baursak (puffy fried bread) baking.
The day before the event the hosts distributed standard sets to the teams: flour, milk and yeast. Chefs of the institutions could add their secret ingredients to the dough to make it softer, airier and tastier. The participants came to the competition place with prepared dough. By the drawing procedure the forms of baursaks for each of the teams were determined - round, square, rhomb and triangle. After receiving the tasks the teams, led by the teachers, followed to a special zone for cooking.
The remaining participants were divided into several teams, each defended the honor of their boarding school or orphanage in dance and streetball. While the boys and girls were competing in it, the other participants were composing rap about their baursaks. The schoolchildren were presenting their dishes with rap. The most delicious baursak was chosen by the jury: the representative of AYALA Charity Fund, the chef of Palladium restaurant, journalists and representatives of the boarding schools (they did not know about the results of the drawing, so they were choosing only by taste).
However the baursaks were not the only treat for the children. Restoran.kz has prepared a delicious pilaf for all the participants, and Raimbek Group has provided juices and lemonades. After the end of the competition dance qpop-bands from MM Entertainment performed for the children.
After the winners were announced the participants came together to dance Karazhorga. The participants of the competition: the special (correctional) boarding school No. 9 for children with severe speech disorders, the special boarding school No. 4 for blind and visually impaired children named after N. Ostrovsky, the boarding school No. 10 for children from low-income families, Almaty regional orphanage No. 1.
