Today, in the Palladium restaurant complex The British-Kazakh Society Charity Afternoon Tea passed. This is the first charity tea drinking, which organized the British-Kazakh Society (BKS) in Almaty. The purpose of this event was the fulfillment of the BKS mission to acquaint with the cultural traditions of Britain. As everyone knows, in the Anglo-Saxon world the tradition of philanthropy is very well developed. A variety of activities - sports and comic contests, costume and theme parties, and of course the famous British tea are becoming a tool of fundraising.
The tea ceremony was held in the British style. Traditional snacks and sweets were served. Few people know that for five-hour tea (5 o’clock tea) small sandwiches with chicken or meat, seasoned with a sauce based on fresh cucumbers served. Guests were entertained by the Mezzo group, performing popular opera arias in modern processing, OryStarShow, guys who held for all gathered humorous lessons of English and Kazakh languages. Master Nurbergen Makhambetov held for the participants a quiz about traditions of tea consumption in the world in general and Britain in particular. The prize for the winner was the bag of the world famous London store of products and tea «Fortnum & Mason». Executive Director of the British-Kazakh Society Gauhar Bramley-Fenton brought from this store a large number of different varieties of tea, which were sold during a charity sale.
During the British-Kazakh Society Charity Afternoon Tea 709 500 tenge was raised, which the «AYALA» charity foundation will direct to the «Play and develop» project in the special (correctional) boarding school № 6 of Almaty city for children with intellectual disabilities. We will purchase special educational sets of visual material and «Numikon» methodology for the lessons in classrooms of this school. This methodology and set of visual material, which were invented in the UK in 1996-1998, to make learning arithmetic easier for children. The «Numikon» help children develop numeracy, logical thinking, remembering the names of colors, develop fine motor skills.
The first charity BKS tea drinking attended by not very many guests, but they all come with a sincere desire to help the children. We hope that the tea drinking of the British-Kazakh Society will develop incrementally and will be as meaningful and regular event in charity as became traditional autumn BKS races that are for 6 years take place in Astana, Almaty and London.
