A catamnesis room was opened in the Center for Perinatology and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery in Almaty. It is necessary for prevention of various chronic diseases associated with congenital and perinatal pathology; early diagnostics of various diseases, elimination of problems that impede normal growth and development of children. Also in a catamnesis room psychological assistance to families of premature newborns is provided.
According to the Center, for the first quarter of 2017 160 children were dismissed from the departments of pathology of newborns who were subject to follow-up care. Currently 125 children aged under one year old are under the criteria of follow-up care in Almaty.
‘There are indications for monitoring in the catamnesis room - children with a high risk for further abnormalities. These are children who weigh less than 1.5 kg at birth, suffered severe asphyxia in childbirth and have problems with lungs or heart pathologies. The room has been organized by the Healthcare Department since June 2017, but in order for the room to function the maternity hospital must have funding for its operation. Now it is funded by polyclinics, which contracted with the Center for Perinatology on counseling services delivery, give a mom a referral and she comes to us for free,’ a neonatologist and an expert of the catamnesis room in the Center for Perinatology and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Nailya Khairullina explained.
Within the framework of the project all equipment necessary for the operation was purchased for over one million KZT. The project sponsor is a private individual. It should be noted that thanks to the projects “Breathe, Baby” and “Breathe Life” of the Foundation the survival rate of children with extremely low birth weight increased from 12% to 55.3% (as of 2016).
“A purpose of our new project ‘Rehabilitation Room’ is to create a catamnesis room in the Center for Perinatology and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery in Almaty to further improve the quality of life of premature babies. For any family it is important that a child grows healthy and happily,” the president of AYALA Charity Foundation Aidan Suleimenova noted.
